It should be no surprise that the 2023 Lenovo Yoga 9i is at the top of our list considering that, just like its predecessor, we called it the best laptop on the market in our review.

That starts with performance, which is handled by a 13th-generation Intel Core i7-1360P, with 12 cores and 16 threads delivering great performance for day-to-day tasks. The processor includes Intel Iris Xe graphics just like before, and the laptop comes with 16GB of RAM and up to a 1TB SSD, all you need for a smooth and lag-free experience.

Similarly, the display is fantastic, as the 14-inch panel comes in a 16:10 aspect ratio, and it now uses an OLED display by default. The base model has 2.8K resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate, but there’s an option for Ultra HD+ resolution at 60Hz if you want to spend less. Of course, there’s a 1080p webcam above that display, and it includes Windows Hello facial recognition, so you can unlock the PC more easily. Image quality is great from this camera, so it’s a great laptop for staying in touch in family and friends.

Lenovo didn’t really change the design of the Yoga 9i, which means it still looks great in both Storm Grey and Oatmeal colorways. It has smooth surfaces and polished curved edges for a bit of bling. It’s also relatively light, starting at 3.09 pounds. As for ports, we’re looking at two Thunderbolt 4 connections, USB Type-A, a headphone jack, and a microSD card reader. Not a mind-blowing setup, but a capable one all things considered.

All in all, this is simply one of the best laptops you can buy today, and that 1080p webcam is just one small part of it. It has great performance, a great-looking display, and a beautiful design, too.

Apple’s MacBook Air is one of the most popular laptops in the world and for good reason. The M2-powered models deliver excellent performance in a very thin and light design.

Let’s start with performance, which is handled by the Apple M2 chip, featuring eight CPU cores and up to 10 GPU cores. This chip delivers fantastic CPU and GPU performance, all while being far more efficient than anything Intel or AMD are putting out. The laptop also comes with up to 24GB of unified memory (RAM) and a 2TB SSD, so you have all you need for a premium experience.

There are 13-inch and 15-inch versions of the MacBook Air, but if you want to go light, you want the smaller model, and that gets you a 13.6-inch panel with a very sharp 2560×1664 resolution and up to 500 nits of brightness. The 1080p webcam is housed in a notch in the middle of the screen, though, which you may not love, especially since there are no special sensors in there. It’s just a webcam, but the Apple M2 does enhance the quality a bit, thanks to its image signal processor (ISP).

Ending on the design, the 13-inch MacBook Air weighs just 2.7 pounds, and it’s just over 11mm thin, making it an extremely portable machine. It comes in four colors, too, which makes it easier to get something you really like. Finally, for connectivity, you get just two Thunderbolt/USB4 ports, a headphone jack with support for high-impedance headphones, and MagSafe charging. The limited connectivity is a downside, but you might be used to it if you’ve used a Mac in the last few years.

Despite some drawbacks, the MacBook Air remains an excellent choice if you want a lightweight laptop, and since the latest model introduced a 1080p webcam, it definitely earns its spot here.

The latest MacBook Pro models pack an even bigger punch with M2 Pro and M2 Max processors, delivering powerful performance and great battery life. Plus, they have fantastic mini-LED displays and a 1080p webcam enhanced by the ISP inside the processor.

If you care less about the bells and whistles of the form factor and more about performance, the latest 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are some of the best creator laptops out there.

Apple makes its own processors for the MacBook Pro, the Apple M2 Pro, and M2 Max. These have a similar 12-core CPU (though the cheapest 14-inch model has 2 cores disabled) that delivers fantastic performance for demanding tasks while still being very efficient. You can also go up to a 38-core GPU on the M2 Max, and just like the CPU, this is very powerful while being far more efficient than any competing GPU on a Windows laptop. To top it all off, you can add up to 96GB of unified memory (RAM) and an 8TB SSD.

The display is also phenomenal, being a Mini-LED panel that can reach a whopping 1,600 nits of peak brightness, or 1,000 of sustained full-screen brightness, in addition to having high contrast ratios and more vibrant colors. The screen is very sharp, too, with the 14-inch model sporting a 3024×1964 resolution, while the 16-inch version goes up to 3456×2244. A downside of this display is the notch on the screen, but at least it houses a 1080p webcam, and thanks to the advanced ISP inside the M2 processors, image quality is very good with this camera.

Design-wise, the MacBook Pro models are fairly standard, coming in either Silver or Space Grey colorways, which are very subdued. They’re not super light, starting at 3.5 pounds for the 14-inch model and 4.7 pounds for the 16-inch version. For connectivity, we get three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, a headphone jack with support for high-impedance headphones, an SD card reader, and MagSafe for charging. A much better setup than some older MacBook Pro models and a solid one overall.

No other laptop offers the combination of performance and efficiency of the MacBook Pro, and while it’s not cheap, this is a very easy laptop to recommend.

The HP Dragonfly Pro is an AMD Ryzen-powered laptop with great performance for day-to-day tasks and a sleek design. With a 5MP sensor, it ahs one of the best webcams not just among AMD laptops, but across the entire market.

There aren’t a ton of AMD-powered laptops trying to stand out on the market, but the HP Dragonfly Pro is a notable exception that gets a lot right.

For starters, HP is using a customized AMD Ryzen 7 7736U processor, with eight cores and 16 threads, delivering not only great performance but also very strong battery life. With integrated Radeon 680M graphics, it’s even capable of handling some light gaming. On top of that, it comes with 32GB of RAM and up to a 1TB SSD.

The display is a bit more basic, but this 14-inch panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio is still more than good enough for most people. It has Full HD+ resolution and 400 nits of brightness, so it can be used outdoors without too much strain. However, the real attraction is above that display, with a 5MP webcam handling video calling duties. It’s one of the best webcams on any laptop, and on top of that, it supports Windows Hello facial recognition. This webcam is in almost every high-end HP laptop, and it’s great to see.

Design-wise, the HP Dragonfly Pro looks very clean and sleek in both Ceramic White and Sparkling Black color options, though it’s not exactly a slim laptop. It weighs 3.42 pounds, so it’s not winning any awards for portability. It is, however, one of the few AMD laptops with USB4. It features two of these ports in addition to a more standard USB Type-C port. There’s no headphone jack or other classic ports, which may be a bummer to some.

While it’s not perfect, the HP Dragonfly Pro is a very good laptop with AMD processors and one of the best webcams around, going beyond a simple 1080p sensor.

The display is similarly great. It’s a 16-inch IPS panel with 2560×1600 resolution in the case model, with options up to a 240Hz refresh rate. If you want a higher refresh rate, there’s also a 1920×1200 panel running at a super fast 480Hz. The top-tier panels also cover 100% of DCI-P3, so the colors look great. Above that display is a 1080p webcam that even supports Windows Hello, making this even better than most XPS laptops for calls.

Design-wise, the Alienware x16 comes in a sleek package that’s just 18.57mm thin, and it weighs 6 pounds at maximum, so it’s actually fairly portable among gaming laptops of this caliber. It also looks great with its dual-tone look — silver on the outside, black on the inside — and lots of RGB lighting if you want to show off. As for ports, it comes with two USB-C ports (one supporting Thunderbolt 4), two USB Type-A ports, HDMI, a mini DisplayPort, a headphone jack, and a microSD card reader, so there’s plenty of variety here.

All of this makes for a phenomenal laptop that’s only held back by its high price tag. But if you can afford it, it’s very easy to recommend the Alienware x16.

HP’s Spectre laptops have always been fantastic, and the latest model is no exception. It’s fast, it has a fantastic webcam, and it looks great.

In terms of performance, the HP Spectre x360 13.5 comes with up to a 13th-generation Intel Core i7-1355U, with 10 cores and 12 threads. Compared to some P-series laptops we’ve looked at above, this processor isn’t quite as fast (but performance is still very good), but it also uses a lot less power, so battery life is much better. You can configure this laptop with up to 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD, too.

The 13.5-inch display on this laptop also comes in an even taller 3:2 aspect ratio, ideal for productivity. The base model comes in Full HD+ resolution and uses an IPS panel, though you have the option to upgrade to a 3000×2000 OLED display that looks absolutely stunning. Like the Dragonfly Pro, the HP Spectre x360 also uses a 5MP webcam, so it’s one of the best on this list. It also supports Windows Hello facial recognition, as you might have expected.

Hp hasn’t really changed the design of the Spectre x360 for 2023, but that just means it still looks great. The Nightfall Black and Nocturne Blue color options have a dual-tone design with a unique accent around the edges, but you can still get something more subdued with the Natural Silver model. As for ports, we’re looking at two Thunderbolt 4 ports, USB Type-A, a headphone jack, and a microSD card reader, which is a solid setup overall.

The Spectre x360 13.5 is a great convertible, and there aren’t a ton of flaws we can point out with it, so it definitely earns a recommendation. You can check out our review of the 2022 model to learn more about it, though this newer version has faster processors.

Microsoft Surface Pro 9 Best tablet

A more portable device with two great cameras

The Surface Pro 9 may be a tablet, but it has the power to be used as a regular laptop, thanks to high-end 12th-generation Intel processors. It has some of the best cameras on a Windows device, including a front and rear camera, and it looks great, too.

Surface devices have always had great webcams, and that’s never been more true than with the Surface Pro 9.

Performance-wise, there are two main models of the Surface Pro 9. The regular Wi-Fi model comes with 12th-generation Intel Core processors, up to a Core i7-1255U with 10 cores and 12 threads, while the 5G model comes with a Microsoft SQ3 chipset, an octa-core Arm processor. The Intel model goes up to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, while the 5G version maxes out with 16GB and 512GB, respectively.

Like the Surface Pro 8 before it, the display on the Pro 9 is a 13-inch panel with a 3:2 aspect ratio, and the resolution is 2880×1920. It also has an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, so everything looks that much smoother. The display supports touch and pen input, as you’d expect for a tablet. Similar to previous models, you’ll find a 5MP camera with 1080p video above that display. Naturally, it also comes with Windows Hello facial recognition. There’s another camera on the back, a 10MP sensor with support for 4K video. The 5G model also has some extra features enabled by the neural processing unit inside the Microsoft SQ3 chipset.

Design-wise, the Surface Pro 9 is mostly identical to last year’s model, weighing around 1.9 pounds by itself. Of course, you may want to add a keyboard, too, which takes away some of the portability. The Wi-Fi model comes in four colors to choose from, but the 5G version is only available in Platinum. Both models have just two USB-C ports, though the Wi-Fi model supports Thunderbolt 4, and there’s a Surface Connect port for charging. Natural, the 5G model is the only one with cellular connectivity, which is useful if you want to work on the go.

If you want the power of a laptop in an extra portable device, plus a 1080p camera, the Surface Pro 9 is one of the best options around.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 11 Best business laptop

The quintessential business laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is one of the most popular business laptops in the world, and the latest model comes with upgraded processors and lots of display options. It also has a 1080p webcam with the option to use a MIPI interface for higher-quality images.

Like most laptops on this list, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon is powered by 13th-generation Intel Core processors, up to a Core i7-1370P or a Core i7-1365U, both with vPro Enterprise support. The P-series processors have more cores and are faster overall, but the U-series models will yield better battery life and should still perform well in most daily tasks. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 11 is also the first in the lineup to support up to 64GB of RAM, in addition to a 2TB SSD.

The display is still a 14-inch panel and it comes in a 16:10 aspect ratio, but there are a few configuration options available. It starts with a standard Full HD+ display, but you can add touch support or a privacy screen, plus there’s an option for a 2.2K resolution panel, or even a stunning 2.8K OLED display, the most premium option of the bunch. And above that display is a 1080p webcam, with optional Windows Hello facial recognition and Computer Vision. Computer Vision uses a MIPI webcam, an interface that should also deliver better image quality from the camera itself.

In terms of design, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon is everything you expect, including the classic black look with red accents that ThinkPads are known for. The laptop is very light, too, weighing just 2.48 pounds, and making it perfect for travel. Despite its lightness, it doesn’t sacrifice ports, so it features Thunderbolt 4, USB Type-A, HDMI, and a headphone jack, giving you solid connectivity overall.

There’s a reason the ThinkPad X1 Carbon is one of the most popular business laptops in the world, and the Gen 11 model still earns a recommendation today.

Microsoft Surface Go 3 Best budget tablet

A great budget device for video calls

The webcam is usually one of the first things to be sacrificed in budget laptops, but with the Surface Go 3, you can save some money and still have one of the best webcams around.

Performance is one area where you’ll be making sacrifices, as the Surface Go 3 only goes up to a Core i3-10110Y processor with two cores and four threads, but if you’re mostly using it for video calls, this is totally fine. It also comes with up to 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD, good enough for a budget-friendly experience that isn’t overly slow.

The display is fairly good for the price, though. This 10.5-inch panel comes in Full HD+ resolution and it has a 3:2 aspect ratio, which helps it feel a bit bigger. Considering the size, it’s a good experience, and better than most laptops in this price range. Just like the Pro 9, the Surface Go 3 has a 5MP front camera with Windows Hello support. It also has a rear camera, using an 8MP sensor that also supports 1080p video recording.

Compared to the Pro 9, the Surface Go 3 has a more classic design with flat edges and a magnesium chassis, which allows it to weigh just 1.2 pounds, not including the keyboard, which is sold separately. It’s extremely portable. It does have a limited supply of ports, though, including USB Type-C, a headphone jack, a microSD card reader, and a Surface Connect port for charging. That’s reasonable for a tablet, but not amazing for a laptop.

While it has some drawbacks, the Surface Go 3 remains one of the best devices you can get if you want a cheap tablet or laptop that’s good for making video calls. That 5MP is a rarity at this price, and it’s pretty good.

Best laptops with 1080p webcams in 2023: The bottom line

Laptops with 1080p webcams are thankfully becoming the standard for most companies, especially in more expensive price brackets, and it’s great to see.
