The MP600 Pro NH is surprisingly successful against Samsung’s popular 990 Pro, albeit with some heat.
Although PCIe 5.0 SSDs are just coming out, PCIe 4.0 drives are still very popular and will continue to be some of the best SSDs for over a year. Among PCIe 4.0 SSDs, Samsung’s 990 Pro has reigned as the fastest SSD (or tied at the top with WD’s SN850X), and I was confident it would stay that way forever when I reviewed it in April.
However, Corsair’s MP600 Pro NH, which was launched at the end of last year with very little popularity, looks like a real hero, beating the 990 Pro by a hair in my test. The MP600 Pro NH is the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSD you can buy, although its high power consumption and heat output mean you’ll need a heatsink.

Corsair MP600 Pro NH prices and availability
Also announced in late 2022, the MP600 Pro NH is now available in 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB models and at the lowest prices you’ll see on any PCIe 4.0 SSD these days. At $65 for the 1TB model and $110 for the 2TB model, at the time of this writing, the MP600 Pro NH isn’t really priced as a high-speed SSD, since the 990 Pro is a hair more expensive. However, unlike the 990 Pro, the MP600 Pro NH offers an 8TB option, and its 4TB option is available right now, while the 4TB 990 Pro is just coming out as I write this review.
One thing the MP600 Pro NH is missing, however, is a heatsink, and neither model comes with one. Although this is not a problem with computer motherboards, which usually come with a heatsink for M.2 SSDs, it means that the drive on the laptop can run without cooling, and you will see why this is a mistake. a little.
How the Corsair MP600 Pro NH was tested
I put the MP600 Pro NH in a test bench using Asus’s ROG Strix B650E-I Gaming motherboard, AMD’s Ryzen 9 7900X, and 32GB of G.Skill’s Flare X5 RAM clocked at 6,000MHz and CL36. I placed the MP600 Pro NH under the board with the SSD heatsink, since the MP600 Pro NH does not come with a heatsink, and for proper performance, you will need to use one. I also tested the 990 Pro under the same conditions as the MP600 Pro NH.
My benchmarks are CrystalDiskMark and ATTO Disk Benchmark, which are basic tests that can give a rough idea of how well these drives will perform in various applications. Although these benchmarks do not reflect the real world, they are accurate, repeatable, and easily comparable. I used default settings for both programs, and between each test, I waited 10-15 minutes to make sure each SSD cache was reloaded. That way, we got the best results.
Procedure
Before the 990 Pro overall
We’re starting with six full CrystalDiskMark tests, half of which measure sequential workloads and the other half randomly, with line depth, size, and thread usage.

When I started looking at the results, I thought that maybe there was a mistake since Corsair only tested the MP600 Pro NH at 7,000MB/s for read speed and 5,700MB/s for write speed. However, after double-checking the reviewer’s guide, this was clearly what I needed to see. When both drives have very little data, the MP600 Pro NH blows with the 990 Pro but mostly it comes out on top mainly because of the high writing on the board, and the good reading in the depth of the top row, reading the low random threads. exam.
When I filled each drive to 90%, the MP600 Pro NH lost recruitment in successive tests, but it continued to perform well in the random test, which is arguably the most important benchmark. Sequential performance is important for transferring large files, but random performance is useful for everything, making the MP600 Pro NH the winner here.
As with CrystalDiskMark, I tested the ATTO Disk Benchmark with its default settings and included data between 512 bytes and 2MB, and I also cut all other points within this range since all these data do not tell us a ton.

In ATTO, the MP600 Pro NH starts out a bit slower than the 990 Pro, but it hovers around the 32KB mark and briefly has a lead of 128KB. However, the 990 Pro has a slight lead after that. The 990 Pro is the winner here, although not by a significant margin, and since ATTO is a benchmark, the 990 Pro can’t make up for its loss in CrystalDiskMark with these results.
One area where the MP600 Pro NH struggles is performance and heat. When I first tried driving this car, I didn’t put the heatsink down because there was no indication to me that it would be needed, but I noticed bad performance in every result. When I put the MP600 Pro NH under the heatsink, however, I was able to achieve the above results, even if the drive had reached 80 degrees Celsius. The 990 Pro will also run hot without a heatsink, but not to this degree, and although an SSD is suitable for devices without a heatsink such as a laptop, the 990 Pro is still usable.
Should you buy the Corsair MP600 Pro NH?
You should buy the Corsair MP600 Pro NH if:
- You want the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSD you can buy
- You have an M.2 heatsink that you can use
- You want to install it in the desktop
You should not buy the Corsair MP600 Pro NH if:
- You are not doing heavy storage tasks like transferring large files or playing DirectStorage games at high settings.
- You cannot connect the motor to the heatsink
Although high power consumption and heat is a problem for the MP600 Pro NH, it is not a big issue because high-end PCIe 4.0 SSDs are used in desktops, and most motherboards from the last few years come with M.2 heatsinks. SSDs such as the MP600 Pro NH and 990 Pro should not be in a laptop regardless of performance and temperature because their high power consumption significantly reduces battery life. However, Corsair should make it clear that this type of SSD does not work well without a heatsink since most motherboards only provide heatsinks in certain areas.
Heat aside, the MP600 Pro NH is a great SSD. It beats the 990 Pro as the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSD you can buy, is slightly cheaper, has more durability, and offers both 4TB and 8TB models. This makes the MP600 Pro NH the new champion among PCIe 4.0 SSDs, which I am still surprised by because few companies can go toe to toe with Samsung and come out on top.
