After upgrading to tvOS 17, Apple TV has not undergone many major user-facing changes. (Of course, there are a lot of new features in iOS 17.) One of them is improved Control C, which is indeed a welcome change. Another is a new feature for finding a lost Apple TV remote using your iPhone or iPad.

Of course, Apple is no stranger to finding things. Its Find My feature has helped track down rogue devices for years. Recently, AirTags have made it easier than ever to track and find almost any non-Apple device with a quarter-sized tracker.
The new remote viewfinder’s functionality falls somewhere in between. It might as well be finding something with an AirTag. But it doesn’t cost you any extra money either, which is nice.
Here’s how to find a lost Apple TV remote in iOS 17.
Lost Apple TV remote control
This is obvious, but worth stating. If you haven’t lost your Apple TV remote (also known as the Siri voice remote), you don’t need to find it.
Do not look for the remote control that is not missing. You’ll just look silly.

Use your phone to find your lost remote control
If you’ve lost your Apple TV Remote (which will happen at some point since it’s still a bit thin and slippery), follow these steps to find it using your phone.
Step 1: Open secluded Apps on your phone. You can spotlight (just search for “remote”), or use the shortcut control center. (Swipe in from the upper right corner of the screen.)
Step 2: At the top of the remote application you will see Select TV, or your active Apple TV hardware. Either way, select this option and look for the remote lookup option. Select it and it will begin the process of actually finding the remote.

Step 3: This is where the real work begins.Move it a little and you’ll see the picture window at Far, nearor here As you get closer or further away from the remote control.
The whole thing evokes memories of classic Sesame Street bits.

Everything here belongs to it. Unfortunately, there is no higher fidelity than this. If you’ve ever used AirTags, you’ll be used to better direction and distance, telling you with greater certainty how close you are to your lost device. AirTags also have the option to emit sound, a feature the remote doesn’t have.
It’s also worth repeating that none of these are find my application, this might make more sense.
The bottom line is that if you’re really worried about losing your Apple TV remote (and also want to make it easier to access), you might want to consider a protective case and an AirTag. But this new feature in iOS 17 is a great backup, and it’s free.
