How to revive your bricked Mac

You can bring back your dead Apple computer.

All of Apple’s latest Macs support macOS Sonoma. However, sometimes when you install an updater, you may encounter unexpected errors. This can result in, at worst, a bricked Mac. Specifically, your computer can prevent it from restarting properly, resulting in a persistent connection that displays the Apple logo. However, you need not worry; it is possible to revive your bricked Mac. Just follow the steps below.

How to refresh a bricked Mac

  1. To replace the processor in your bricked Mac, you need to do the following:
    • If it has an Apple silicon processor – such as an M1 or M2 chip – then turn on your Mac and press and hold the Power button. Exit when you see the startup options window. After that click the Options button with the gear icon, then click Continue.
    • For Intel-powered Macs, turn on your computer, then press and hold Command + R until you see the Apple logo.
  2. You may be asked for a password. In this case, write who you use to identify your bricked Mac.
  3. Click on Disk Utility, followed by Continue.
  4. Click on the startup disk (usually called Macintosh HD).
  5. Click on Delete, and confirm that you want to delete.
  6. Click the red close button when you are done deleting.
  7. Click Reinstall macOS and click Continue.
  8. Follow the instructions mentioned and agree to Apple’s terms after reading them carefully.
  9. The latest version of macOS will be downloaded and installed. Keep your Mac connected to a power source during this time. 2 Photos Close
