LG Gram Style and Lenovo Yoga 9i are, each in their own way, two of the most popular laptop brands of 2023. , each brings different things to the table. The LG Gram Style is a business laptop that makes a statement, while the Lenovo Yoga 9i lends itself to flexible use with its flexible design. So which laptops are best for your needs? We went with the LG Gram Style and the Lenovo Yoga 9i to answer the same question.

LG Gram Style vs Lenovo Yoga 9i: Price, specifications & availability

Being both released in 2023, the LG Gram Style and Lenovo Yoga 9i are at the lower end of the laptop price range. Since all these laptops were released recently, they are easily available through their original manufacturers and select websites such as Amazon and Best Buy. At the time of writing, the LG Gram Style is available at several other retailers.

The Lenovo Yogi 9i (2023) lineup has three different pre-built configurations. The model that ships with a 1TB SSD and a WQUXGA (3840×2400) OLED display has a $1,650 MSRP. One with a 1TB SSD and a 2.8K (2880×1800) OLED display starts at $1,800, and the base model that ships with a 512GB SSD and a 2.8K (2880×1800) OLED display costs $1,400. Lenovo regularly has sales on its website, however, you may find one of these models on sale.

The LG Gram Style line consists of two 14-inch models. The model with 32GB of RAM and 1TB SSD has an MSRP of $1,800. The model with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD has an MSRP of $1,500. The LG Gram Style line also has two 16-inch models, both of which have slightly better looks. One has 32GB of RAM and has an MSRP of $2,000, while the other has 16GB of RAM and has an MSRP of $1,800.

For a clear comparison, we’ve focused on comparing the 14-inch models of each laptop, but the 16-inch model is mentioned where necessary.

Creation

While both laptops offer impressive features, the Lenovo Yoga 9i (2023) ultimately trumps the LG Gram Style in terms of design. This is mainly due to the functionality it offers as a convertible 2-in-1 laptop. The ability to fold the keyboard behind the display is a useful feature for creative work, especially when you include the Precision Pen 2. The Bowers & Wilkins soundbar hinge down the center is also a nice touch. The Yoga 9i still has a nice round design that comes in Storm Gray or Oatmeal color.

Meanwhile, the LG Gram Style has a clamshell design, but it stands out thanks to its sleek and futuristic design, which makes sense considering that style is in its name. Its Dynamic White color has a sleek look and looks high-tech when paired with glasses. The interior of the laptop is stylish, too, with a clear glass palm rest and dynamic lighting around the haptic touch area.

In terms of portability, they are both in the lightest category, so it’s a tie for less. The Yoga 9i is 12.5 x 9.1 x 0.6 inches and weighs a little over 3.1 pounds. The 14-inch LG Gram Style is about 12.3 x 8.4 x 0.6 inches and weighs 2.2 pounds. The LG Gram model is almost a pound lighter, but both laptops are still great for on-the-go users.

The selection of ports for both laptops is very difficult. The Yoga 9i has two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB Type-C port, one USB Type-A port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Gram Style has two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB Type-A port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microSD card reader. With the Yoga 9i, you get another USB-C port, while with the Gram Style, you get a microSD card reader. That’s an impressive difference, but it doesn’t tip the scales when stacked against some of these laptop designs.

At the end of the day, all the small details that the LG Gram Style still has can’t match the flexibility that the Lenovo Yoga 9i offers with its flexible design. While both machines find a way to outperform other laptops of their specifications, they are still the clear winner in the design category.

Show it

Each of these laptops has a high-quality OLED screen, but which screen is the best? The short answer is that it’s a tie, but the reason for that is very complicated. The LG Gram Style comes with a 14-inch 2.8K (2880X1800) OLED display or a 16-inch 3K (3200×2000) OLED display. The Lenovo Yoga 9i (2023) comes with two 14-inch OLED displays: a 2.8K (2880×1800) option and a WQUXGA (3840×2400) one.

Both displays have the same numbers of pixel density, brightness, and color game DCI-P3, which means they look the same. However, only the Yoga 9i’s display has HDR500 support, which makes it even better when viewing high-quality content. Likewise, all Gram Style displays have a 120Hz refresh rate, while the 2.8K Yoga 9i screen has a 90Hz refresh rate, and the WQUXGA only has a 60Hz refresh rate. This gives the Gram style an edge when it comes to watching content with a lot of movement, such as action movies or sports. 90Hz will remain strong for software applications.

One or the other perhaps being a better choice, but only if you have strong HDR or high-motion preferences. Other than this minor difference, every show is great. Many would struggle to tell the difference between the two in a side-by-side comparison, so in the end, you can’t go wrong with either.

Procedure

Considering that both the LG Gram Style and Lenovo Yoga 9i (2023) models are both powered by the same 13th generation Intel Core i7-1360P processor. This processor has 12 cores (4 performance cores and 8 utility cores) and 16 threads. Because all laptops use the same processor, their performance should be comparable. However, the Yoga 9i fared better than the Gram Style in our independent tests thanks to the laptop’s superior design.

The Gram version ran very hot during our testing, causing the processor to vibrate due to overheating. This is no longer limited to our sample unit, as many other reviewers have failed to replicate LG’s acceptable results. So, the numbers speak for themselves here.

Both laptops are equipped with Intel Iris Xe graphics, which can handle basic video and light gaming but not multi-tasking. And although the CPU benchmarks are a little behind the Gram Style, both laptops feel easy and responsive to use. They’re all still functional laptops, after all. However, users of CPU-intensive applications will see the processor falter on the Gram Style, so the win goes to the Yoga 9i.

Battery life

In terms of battery, the Lenovo Yoga 9i also has a slight advantage, although the 14-inch and 16-inch LG Gram Style also have larger batteries. The Gram version has a 72Wh battery in its 14-inch version and an 80Wh battery in its 16-inch version. The Yoga 9i (2023) has a 75Wh battery in all options. On paper, you’d think the Yoga 9i would have a slightly longer battery life, and this was partially confirmed by our testing.

When we tested the Yoga 9i, it lasted about six hours at various settings. The lowest usage we got was 4 hours and 40 minutes, and the highest was 6 hours and 31 minutes. When we tested the 16-inch LG Gram Style, we also reached six hours of battery life in good condition. To be fair, we had between 4 hours 8 minutes and 4 hours 33 minutes. We haven’t been able to test the 14-inch version of the Gram Style, but based on the numbers provided, it’s fair to expect it to have similar, if not better, performance compared to the 16-inch, if smaller version. the display should be low power. That said, the Yoga 9i has yet to win.

LG Gram Style vs Lenovo Yoga 9i: Which is right for you?

The Yoga 9i has the upper hand in almost every important feature that can be compared to these two machines, and this makes Lenovo’s reputation a better one here. It achieves higher CPU benchmarks than the Gram Style despite having the same processor, so it’s much better in terms of performance. And while all laptops have a sleek design, the Yoga 9i’s is a tablet that can be used with an integrated stylus, so it also wins for creative use. Its battery life is slightly better, too, making it a solid option for users on the go. Ultimately, you can’t go wrong with the Yoga 9i (2023).

While the LG Gram Style doesn’t have the versatility of a 2-in-1 and the power of the Lenovo Yoga 9i, it’s still a design machine that will turn heads for years to come with its impressive specs. The Gram Style’s solid battery life and OLED display more than make up for any needs it has, especially if you want a 16-inch display. If it seems like we were too harsh on Gram Style, consider this each one the laptop will seem a bit lacking compared to our favorite of the year.

LG Gram Style is a good alternative

The LG Gram model may fall short in the performance department, but performance isn’t everything when it comes to computers. This book is still a good option for someone who appreciates having a high-quality, light and compact clamshell display, and the visual beauty that delivers the sound.
