Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel should note that Chat is now Microsoft Groups – Free.
Essentials
- Microsoft is removing the Teams integration in the Windows 11 Beta Channel.
- Windows 11 build 22631.2338 now has Microsoft Teams – Free as a default app on the taskbar.
- Windows 11 builds 22621.2338 and 22631.2338 mainly include bug fixes and a new widget introduction.
Microsoft has released two new Windows 11 Beta builds, and the one that usually brings new features removes one. Indeed, Windows Insiders running Windows 11 build 22631.2338 with new updates coming out, you should notice that Microsoft is going one step closer to Windows 11 Groups. In that build, Chat is now Microsoft Groups – Free. But Windows 11 Beta Channel build 22621.2338, is a minor release that only fixes bugs. Both builds are getting a new lighting widget.
It is not unusual that Microsoft is removing the Teams integration from Windows 11, we already knew about this since June when it was removed from the Dev Channel. Today’s movement is slowly descending into a stable Beta mode. Unlike the old Chat app, Microsoft Groups – Free is now pinned to the taskbar by default and can be displayed as other apps on the taskbar. These are the same categories of consumer software that you can use in Windows 10. This update works in build 22631.2338, though. Other changes in this release can be seen below.
- Fixed an issue that caused some Insiders to see untranslated text in other places on the desktop, including in File Explorer and Settings. If you continue to see translations, please comment.
- Fixed an issue where dragging app icons into the taskbar would sometimes cause explorer.exe to crash.
- Fixed an issue that caused some Insiders to see text in their bar unexpectedly.
- Fixed an issue that caused Task Manager to not launch for some Insiders.
- Fixed an issue for users in the dark, where they see a white light when opening File Explorer.
- Fixed an issue where when switching between dark and light, icons in the command bar and context menu could be difficult to see.
- We’ve also made some changes to help download Home. Resetting the memory leak associated with Home that grows every time Home is refreshed or accessed.
- We fixed an issue where Updates did not launch in a Safe mode for Insiders.
- Fixed an issue where the dialog for collecting the memory dump method incorrectly said it was collecting kernel memory.
- We’ve fixed an issue where you might not see notifications on the first change to a home with active lighting, letting you know that active lighting is turned on.
