MSI manufactures compelling hardware, including PCs, built-in systems, graphics cards, and motherboards. The company also makes gaming mice, and today, we’re looking at the MSI Clutch GM51 Lightweight Wireless, a great wireless mouse with a great sensor and a great charging port. Designing a lightweight wireless mouse can be difficult because the battery can be very heavy, especially with the increasing amount of time between charges. MSI, like other manufacturers, has to strike a balance between weight and appearance.
MSI may not have been able to do this fully, but the Clutch GM51 Lightweight Wireless boasts 140 hours of battery life without RGB lighting. This is much higher than what other competitors are offering. Inside the pointer is the impressive PxArt PAW-3395 device, which is found in many early gaming mice and offers high precision levels. Software support is available, although it falls short of what’s available from competing brands, such as Razer and Logitech.

There’s a lot to appreciate with the MSI Clutch GM51 Lightweight Wireless. It has amazing battery life, works great, and comes with a magnetic wireless charging port, but it’s not the lightest kid on the block.

The MSI Clutch GM51 Lightweight Wireless was originally set at $100, but you can get it for as low as $90 without any discounts. That’s enough money to pay for a wireless gaming mouse with a built-in keyboard and original PixArt connector. The mouse is available in one color, black, and comes with a cable, a charging port, and a wireless USB dongle.
Design and appearance
One good looking mouse
One thing that immediately stands out about the Clutch GM51 Lightweight Wireless is its sleek design. After using it for a few weeks, there were many signs of oiliness on the buttons and palm rest, and that is the irregular cleaning using wipes. This is not something that is limited to this mouse, but the matte black design makes it stand out more than other pointers, especially white mice.
Other than that, this is an advanced mouse. In MSI fashion, there’s a dragon logo to the right of the pointer, which features RGB lighting. The visual display continues on both sides of the mouse. There are five customizable buttons, including a scroll wheel, making it a good choice for those who play a variety of games without going into the deep end of MMOs and MOBAs. If you’ve had Razer DeathAdder pointers, the MSI Clutch GM51 Light looks (and feels) familiar.
For the part, MSI went with its tried and tested diamond monitors which look like they should be able to handle even the most intense games. Everything is encased inside a shell that weighs 83g and measures 122 x 62 x 45mm. It’s not a huge mouse, but it has heft, which can be a concern if you’re used to lighter mice. The scroll wheel is your standard issue that is quiet and easy to use without overflowing. Razer nails this area with its DeathAdder and Viper families of gaming mice.

At the bottom of the mouse is a PixArt sensor, a switch to switch between wireless modes (also “off”), a DPI button, and a lot of PTFE feet. There are six: two on the front, two on the side, one big foot on the back, and a ring around the sensor. This makes the mouse very fast on smooth surfaces. Using NZXT’s mouse as a test, the GM51 Light travels around the world without a problem. It’s much smoother than competing mice. Included with the mouse is one USB-C cable, a 2.4Ghz dongle, and a wireless charging port.
Interestingly, the dongle can be stored on the front of the mouse where the USB-C port is located. It can be connected to a USB port on your PC, although we recommend using a dedicated USB port. That being said, connecting the mouse to the port is a painless process that doesn’t involve much to connect it – something I found difficult with Razer’s wireless ports. The MSI Clutch GM51 Lightweight Wireless is a stylish mouse with everything you need to play most PC titles.
One issue I can see is dirt and silt built up inside the small diamond stones on the sides. As long as you clean the mice regularly throughout the year and keep an eye on the area, this shouldn’t be a cause for concern.

When it comes to performance, however, MSI outperforms the flying models. PixArt PAW-3395 sensor is amazing when combined with PTFE feet. The sensor can hit a maximum sensitivity of 26,000, a speed of 650 inches per second (IPS), and a speed of 50G. This is what we’ve come to expect from premium mice like the GM51, and it feels great for a variety of gaming applications. Everything from trails to adventure, with a sprinkling of old school RuneScape thrown in for good measure. Omron’s mechanical switches under the two buttons on the left and right are also clear. They rated 60 million activations, and the last few weeks have given no reason to doubt this.

However, this mouse is heavier than other competitors. I switched to the trusty Razer DeathAdder V3 Pro before I looked at the GM51 from MSI, and this thing is. burdensome compared to snakes. This has a big impact on games that require fast movement.
MSI Center is good enough to manage the Clutch GM51 Lightweight Wireless. You can use it to change the colors of the RGB lighting, configure all five available buttons, set profiles, and change the sensitivity of the sensor. It would have been nice to see more options when you customize each button, but the app is light on mechanical features. The wireless connection works best when using a 2.4 GHz dongle. Battery life is best with the power off, and the mouse charges quickly using the cable or port.
Should you buy the MSI Clutch GM51 Lightweight?
You should buy MSI Clutch GM51 Lightweight Wireless if:

- You don’t play games that require countless button presses
- You don’t have more than $100 to spend on a mouse

- You play an MMO/MOBA game and you want more buttons
- You want a lightweight wireless mouse
If you’re looking for a wireless gaming mouse that packs a punch with a capable sensor and is designed to be used comfortably over long distances, the MSI Clutch GM51 Lightweight Wireless is one I’d recommend. The PixArt PAW-3395 sensor is amazing, and I’ve become a big fan of the company’s hardware when used in other gaming mice. It works well inside the MSI Clutch GM51 Lightweight Cordless, and combined with the PTFE feet, you can walk on any surface without losing performance and precision.
I’m a big fan of how the mouse looks too. While the Clutch GM51 Lightweight Cordless is easy to carry, it is easy to use. It’s not the lightest pointer, though, but the 140-hour battery life is pretty good if you don’t mind turning off the RGB lighting. I recommend doing that because you may not be able to see the lights under your hand.
