NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 vs. RTX 4090: Which GPU should you choose?

We’re comparing two of Nvidia’s top RTX 40 graphics cards.

A graphics card is the most important component of any PC game. It is what determines how all your favorite PC games will run in different settings. Nvidia’s RTX 40 series of GPUs are very powerful, but the company has also raised its MSRP for the family of graphics cards, taking into account the number of gamers in the game. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 is the undisputed champion in gaming and the RTX 4080 is priced below it, but how do these two GPUs compare? That’s exactly what this book will show!

Price, availability, and specifications

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 both launched on September 20, 2022. The RTX 4080 had an MSRP of $1,199 and the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 was at $1,599, making them among the most expensive graphics cards available. Availability was difficult to begin with due to the purchase price although not many can afford these prices per unit. These two GPUs offer significant benefits over previous generation cards, but the power draw and cost are huge. Compared to AMD’s Radeon GPUs, the Nvidia RTX 40 series cards are better for casual gaming and ray tracing.

RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 are two very similar cards. The RTX 4090 has an extra 8GB of GDDR6X VRAM, a larger memory bus, more bandwidth, more dynamic graphics, slightly faster clock speeds, and nearly double the number of shader units. All of this results in a significant improvement in performance over the RTX 4080. Not only is the RTX 4080 not a good card on its own – it can handle 4K games – but the RTX 4090 is a better GPU.

Ada Lovelace’s design is the same on all graphics cards. Both GPUs use the same drivers and support the same codecs. While the RTX 4080 costs $400 less based on MSRP, the RTX 4090 offers the best value in terms of cost performance. This is an indication of how messed up the GPU market has become over the past few years.

Procedure

No matter which card you buy, you will have the best game. The RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 have enough additional power to handle 2K and 4K ray-enabled tasks. One can expect to see a 20% drop when moving from the RTX 4090 to the RTX 4080, which shows how advanced the GPU performance is. The RTX 4080 is slightly slower than AMD’s best graphics cards.

One area where the RTX 4080 will fall short of the RTX 4090 is content creators with only 16GB of VRAM. This should be good for games at higher resolutions while we are still using the same GDDR6X RAM found on the RTX 4090, but having less will only reduce the performance of the pump and the card will use the system memory to store more. .

Which one is right for you?

We recommend buying the RTX 4090 over two Nvidia graphics cards. If it means giving up savings and paying extra, we think it’s worth it. The RTX 4080 does not offer a good price, which makes the RTX 4090 a better choice. If you don’t feel comfortable paying $1,000 for a GPU, AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX is an excellent graphics card. The RTX 4080 is a great GPU for performance and capabilities, just not enough for the asking price.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Cheap to play

Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4080 is an impressive graphics card capable of playing 4K games and ray tracing. It’s expensive and maybe not the most important GPU for your PC build, but it’s still an amazing card for gaming.

The price of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 is ridiculous and we don’t expect many to pay for butter-smooth 4K gaming with ray tracing. It is an amazing technology, which takes the best from the Nvidia factory and delivers the best gaming experience available. It’s more powerful than your monitor can handle unless it’s a 2K ultrawide or 4K panel with high refresh rates. This is the GPU to buy if you want the best performance and value for money.
